Monash High-Powered Rocketry is a student team dedicated to the design, analysis and construction of high-powered rockets.

SIMULATION ENGINEER

Reports to: 

Dynamics Section Lead

Job Summary:

The Dynamics subteam is looking for dedicated simulation engineers who wish to contribute towards the building and maintenance of our state of the art rocket trajectory simulator and analysing the performance of the rockets designed and built by HPR .

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain new and existing software with regards to our trajectory simulation

  • Use computational fluid dynamics to simulate the flow around the rocket and use this to analyse vehicle performance and safety

  • Write technical reports 

  • Attend and contribute to team meetings

Experience/skills required:
  • Basic understanding of fundamental physical laws governing rigid-body motion and fluid dynamics

  • Basic understanding of a programming language (any of Python, MATLAB, C++)

  • Experience with numerical modelling of physical systems is desirable

A knowledge of, or a interest in Learning:
  • Numerically modelling rigid-body dynamics

  • Computer Aided Design Modelling

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics

  • Hobby Rocketry, Rocketry in general, and Space science!

Favourable personal qualities
  • Curiosity and a desire to learn new things

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and within a team

  • Ability to stick to deadlines

  • Availability on weekends
